€40m Victor Munoz Deal Shows Liverpool Still Know How to Move in Silence
Munoz may not be a household name yet, but his pace, dribbling and directness make this a fascinating Liverpool signing.
There is something wonderfully familiar about the way Liverpool have gone about the signing of Victor Munoz.
For years, supporters became accustomed to transfer windows dominated by endless rumours, breathless social media updates and self appointed insiders claiming to know every detail before it happened. Yet some of Liverpool’s finest pieces of business have arrived from a different direction entirely. Quietly. Efficiently. Without fanfare.
Then suddenly, the deal is done.
That is precisely how the move for Munoz feels.
One minute supporters were debating centre backs, discussing the future of Cody Gakpo and wondering whether another high profile attacker would arrive. The next, Liverpool had triggered a €40 million release clause and secured the signature of a Spain international who Newcastle United had been pursuing.
Personally, I love transfers like this.
Not because every hidden gem becomes a superstar. Football does not work that way. What appeals is the confidence behind the decision. Liverpool identified a player, moved quickly and got the deal done before the noise machine could catch up.
For a club beginning a new era under Andoni Iraola, there is something reassuring about that.
Pace Changes Everything
The first thing everybody says about Munoz is remarkably simple.
He is rapid.
Not quick. Not reasonably fast. Rapid.
