Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool: Reds Make it Ten Unbeaten
Liverpool might even feel slightly disappointed not to take all three points...
Most Liverpool fans travelled into this one braced for damage limitation. Arsenal at home, top of the Premier League, chasing daylight at the summit, it felt like the sort of fixture that could easily tilt away. Instead, Liverpool walked out with a point that said far more about where this side stands than many expected.
What struck me most was how comfortable Liverpool eventually became once Arsenal stopped squeezing every inch of space. The opening spell was rough, no doubt. Arsenal pressed hard, moved the ball quickly and looked determined to turn territory into control. Liverpool barely escaped their own half and for a while it felt like survival mode.
Then the game breathed. Once Arsenal eased off, Liverpool found rhythm. Possession settled, midfield links improved and suddenly this did not look like a team clinging on. That pattern has become familiar. Sides that come out and try to play leave doors ajar. Liverpool may not always burst through them, but they are far less suffocating to face than teams who sit deep and drain time from the match.
Arsenal, for all their quality, played into that dynamic. They had the ball, they had control, but they did not shut the game down. That allowed Liverpool to grow. Florian Wirtz dropping deeper changed the picture, Jeremie Frimpong offered a constant escape route, and the second half belonged more to Liverpool than many will admit.
The late incident involving Gabriel Martinelli left a bitter edge, particularly with Conor Bradley clearly injured. That frustration from Arsenal felt telling. When a side truly has command, those moments rarely happen. They happen when tension creeps in, when control does not match the scoreboard.
Liverpool were blunt in attack, that cannot be ignored. The lack of a natural focal point showed in the numbers and in the box. Still, context matters. With key attackers missing, this was about shape, discipline and staying alive in a title race that few predicted would feel this close at this stage.
A draw like this does not feel lucky. It feels earned. More importantly, it reinforces a growing belief that Liverpool are far more comfortable when opponents come out and test them. Even if those opponents are champions in waiting.
Sometimes a point tells you more than a win.
