Forget Alonso: Two Rising Managers Who Could Fit Liverpool Perfectly
High pressing, attacking football, and rapid success in Germany make them intriguing options.
At this point, it looks like Xabi Alonso is the early favourite to replace Arne Slot. Despite proclamations briefed to the press this week that Liverpool’s power brokers retain steadfast backing for Slot, the fact that no new contract has been forthcoming for the Dutchman, I’d say the writing may well be on the wall, and rightly so.
However, knowing Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes, they won’t be having tunnel vision just yet.
So much could still happen from now until the end of the season; Slot’s side may even surprise us and mount an unprecedented run that could save his job.
We haven’t seen any signs of that, even looking remotely possible, so far this season. But you just never know.
The far likelier conclusion is that Liverpool will appoint a new manager this summer.
Obviously, Alonso will be at the top of the club’s shortlist. Although his also hotly linked to replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. But who else could Liverpool target?
We’ve taken a look at two under-the-radar options, both of whom have impressive systems and playing styles tailor-made for the way Liverpool fans want the Reds to play.
