Liverpool’s 3-0 humbling at the hands of Manchester City was a gut punch that signalled far deeper issues than a bad day at the office. With five losses in their last six Premier League games, more than they suffered in the entire previous campaign, this was a proper reality check.

Liverpool fans had been encouraged by the recent resurgence with back-to-back wins against Aston Villa and Real Madrid sparking optimism that the Dutchman had restored their swagger.
