Arne Slot’s job is safe. For now. But what we have seen from his Liverpool side over the course of the last year or so does mean that, unless things can change, he’ll be gone sooner rather than later.

Liverpool have done well in the Champions League, but they have struggled to breakdown resolute defences in the Premier League, who set-up in a deep-lying low-block.

Slot’s constant complaints about the way opposition teams set-up against the Reds has been frustrating to watch.

There haven’t been any signs so far of him being able to tweak things in order to find solutions.

Long-term the kind of results that Liverpool have been getting under him is simply not sustainable.

But if not Slot, who else could come in?

One thing aimed at me on social media in response to my criticisms of Slot, is that I rarely talk about who I’d replace him with. In all seriousness that is job of Liverpool’s hierarchy, and it’s an unenviable one, but I have been thinking about since it November when I realised that Arne Slot, at least in my opinion, is likely in his final season as Liverpool’s head coach.

So let’s take a lot at three possible options, and analyse the secrets behind their tactical system.
