Jan Molby: Liverpool’s Transfer Window, Isak Talks and the Premier League Season Ahead
My take on Liverpool’s transfer business, squad depth, and the challenges we face as the new Premier League season begins.
Fast Start to the Transfer Window
When the summer began, it felt like we were moving faster than anyone else. Big signings were being made without fuss, the deals for Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike came through early, and the new full backs gave everyone a lift. The optimism was huge. You could sense that feeling among the supporters too, that this could turn out to be one of the club’s best ever transfer windows.
But football has a way of changing your outlook. Once the games started, you could see the reality of our situation. Injuries are part of every pre-season, but when they happen to the same players over and over again, it becomes a real concern. Suddenly, the squad looked lighter than we thought. It is not that we cannot cope with a couple of absences, but when you scan the bench and see how thin it is, you start to understand where the gaps are.
