Business to Take Care of Tonight at Anfield

There’s no such thing as a throwaway game at Liverpool. Tonight against Southampton in the League Cup, we’ll see that again. This isn’t a second-string cup side. It will be full of first-teamers. That’s how it works now at the top level.

Big clubs win this competition because they take it seriously. City, Chelsea, ourselves, we’ve all used it well in recent seasons. It’s not about resting players, it’s about using the ones who haven’t started the last few league matches. They’re good enough to win. You’ll probably see the likes of Endo, Curtis Jones, Joe Gomez, Robbo and a few others who are very much senior professionals. I’d expect Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak to feature as well.

Southampton have had a poor start in the Championship under a young manager, and while they’ll want to play a bit, they’ll be coming to Anfield with a bit of fear. I think they’ll try to get on the ball, which could help us. There will be space, and we’ve got the quality to hurt teams who try that.

I’d back us strongly to win tonight. I’m going 4-1. We might concede because they’ll commit bodies at some point, but we’ve got too much for them.

Everton Brought the Grit, But We Had the Quality

Saturday’s 2-1 win over Everton in the derby was a proper Liverpool performance. These games are never pretty, never comfortable, and they always come with a bit of baggage. But we managed it, controlled it when we needed to, and we won.
