Jan Molby: Villa Park Must Show Liverpool Still Have A Pulse
Liverpool may still get over the line, but Jan Molby wants a performance that gives supporters something to believe in.
Tonight at Aston Villa, Liverpool have another chance to show there is still something there. After Chelsea, that matters. We went into that game having won three of the previous four, and I thought there was an opportunity to finish the season well and give the supporters a bit of hope.
We got off to a great start, then allowed Chelsea to do whatever they wanted. They arrived after six defeats, and once they went behind, it looked like a game they might have wanted to bin. Instead, they grew into it. Cole Palmer looked like a player again, Enzo Fernandez caused problems, and by half time I thought we were in difficulty.
The second half became a nothing game. Liverpool hit the crossbar and the post, and maybe we could have sneaked a 2-1 win. That does not change how unconvincing it was. You take the result, then ask what it means, and there is very little there.
Villa Park Test Comes At An Awkward Time
Villa Park tonight is awkward because Aston Villa still have something in their season. They have Liverpool and Manchester City to play, and they also have Freiburg in the Europa League final. Their whole season could hinge on that final.
