Jan Molby Weighs In: Can Arne Slot Fix Liverpool After Salah’s Departure?
Is Slot still the right man for Liverpool's Post-Salah rebuild?
It’s been a season of frustration for Liverpool, and as we approach the end of it, there’s a sense that we’ve missed an opportunity to truly build on the success of previous years. Arne Slot, now in his second year at the helm, has faced a lot of challenges, but none more pressing than the looming departure of Mohamed Salah, a player who has been at the heart of Liverpool’s success for nearly a decade.
Slot’s Tactical Struggles: Missing the Edge
When Arne Slot was appointed, there was real optimism. His work at Feyenoord had turned heads, and many expected him to bring a more controlled, tactical approach to Liverpool’s game, while maintaining the attacking football that made us one of the most feared teams in Europe. But after two seasons, I can’t help but feel that we haven’t seen the full potential of his vision.
The biggest issue, for me, is the midfield. Slot’s system demands a lot from the players in that area, but it’s been hard to see it come together consistently. Domink Szoboszlai has shown glimpses of brilliance, but far too often, we’ve seen a midfield that lacks balance and creativity. The press that once defined Liverpool is also a shadow of its former self. There’s still possession, but not the same intensity or incisiveness. Teams have been able to play through us too easily, and the midfield has often failed to control the game in the way it once did.
