Leeds United 3-3 Liverpool: Reds' Defensive Issues Exposed Again
Anfield Index Post-Match Content - OUT NOW
Liverpool’s unpredictable Premier League season produced another dramatic chapter in a 3-3 draw at Elland Road, where Leeds United twice fought back to deny the champions victory. Arne Slot’s side showed flashes of brilliant attacking play but their recurring defensive instability again proved costly.
Liverpool controlled the early stages, with Cody Gakpo, Virgil van Dijk and Curtis Jones all going close as Leeds struggled to settle. Alisson was still required to save from Jayden Bogle, a reminder of the visitors’ vulnerability on the counter. Despite their dominance and xG advantage, Liverpool failed to find a breakthrough before half time.
Hugo Ekitike shifted the momentum immediately after the restart. He punished a stray Joe Rodon pass to make it 1-0, then added a scrappy second moments later from Conor Bradley’s cross. At 2-0 Liverpool looked comfortable, but that control quickly evaporated. Ibrahima Konate brought down Wilfried Gnonto and Dominic Calvert-Lewin converted the penalty. Leeds equalised within seconds when Brenden Aaronson and Gnonto combined to tee up Anton Stach, who finished calmly for 2-2.
Liverpool regained the lead through Dominik Szoboszlai after good work from Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister, yet the hosts refused to fold. A late Stach corner was not cleared and substitute Ao Tanaka fired in an angled strike to secure a deserved 3-3 draw.
Liverpool’s away form continues to falter, while Leeds, buoyed by back to back positive results, strengthened their belief under Daniel Farke.
