Life After Alisson: Liverpool’s Best Option Revealed
The Reds may need a long-term successor soon, and a 21-year-old in Ligue 1 is ticking every box.
Recent developments have been hinting at Alisson Becker’s departure sooner than expected at Liverpool.
The Reds have activated their option to renew his deal until 2027. However, whether Alisson ends-up staying at Anfield for that long is moot.
Rumours of Juventus stepping up their interest and Liverpool being open to a sale would suggest there is a chance Alisson leaves the club this summer.
Even if he doesn’t, Liverpool are now seriously having to think about finding his heir in the next 12 months, or maybe even sooner.
What Liverpool Need in an Alisson Replacement
But who could possibly replace someone of Alisson’s quality?
Sure, Liverpool have some talented goalkeepers in their squad. Giorgi Mamardashvili is an excellent shot-stopper but is he ready to step-up and be the no.1?
There’s Vitezslav Jaros, who has done well on loan. Freddie Woodman has stepped up as a third-choice goalkeeper. Meanwhile, Armin Pecsi is very highly rated as well.
However, all of these players are very inexperienced at the highest level. Liverpool don’t just need an experienced goalkeeper who prevents goals, but they also need someone like Alisson, who can involve himself in the build-up, who is comfortable at receiving the ball and whose distribution becomes a key part of instigating attacks.
Far too often this season, Mamardashvili has shown that his distribution is not his strongest side.
And while he may be an astute back-up, Liverpool need extra competition in Alisson’s absence.
They need a goalkeeper who can both play with the ball and also prevent chances on a regular basis.
For that, you need to look no further than Robin Risser.
