Liverpool 0-0 Leeds United: Reds Struggle in Arne Slot's First Goalless Draw
Another missed opportunity for Arne Slot's side
Liverpool started 2026 with a frustrating Premier League 0-0 draw against Leeds United at Anfield, the first goalless match of Arne Slot’s reign. Liverpool dominated possession but produced little incision, leaving Leeds goalkeeper Lucas Perri with few saves. The standout chance arrived in the first half when Jeremie Frimpong’s left footed strike bounced perfectly for Hugo Ekitike, only for the forward to head wide with the goal gaping. Liverpool also felt Ekitike was held by Jaka Bijol in the area, and Virgil van Dijk headed wide from a second half corner.
Leeds were disciplined and compact, and Daniel Farke even managed his squad with one eye on Sunday’s home match against Manchester United. Dominic Calvert Lewin, benched despite seven goals in his previous six games, nearly stole it late on. He turned sharply and finished past Alisson in the 81st minute, but the goal was ruled out for a marginal offside.
The draw extended Liverpool’s unbeaten run to eight league matches and kept them three points ahead of Chelsea in fifth, but it’s another missed opportunity for the Reds.
