Liverpool 2-0 Aston Villa: Dominik Szoboszlai Shines Again as Reds Secure Crucial Win
Goals from Mohamed Salah and Ryan Gravenberch sealed the three points...
After four Premier League defeats on the bounce, it was make or break for Liverpool. The Reds had lost six out of their last seven across all competitions, whilst Aston Villa had won six of their last seven.
Arsenal’s victory over Burnley earlier in the day saw them provisionally move ten points clear of Arne Slot’s side. A response was pivotal.
It looked to be more of the same when Morgan Rogers hit the woodwork in the opening few minutes, but from there Liverpool clicked into gear.
Dominik Szoboszlai saw a few chances saved by Emiliano Martinez before turning provider with a great cross, which was met by the head of Hugo Ekitike. The offside flag ruled that one out but the disappointment didn’t last long as just two minutes later, Mohamed Salah pounced on a Martinez mistake to slot the ball home.
Liverpool doubled their lead in the second half when Ryan Gravenberch’s strike from the edge of the box was deflected into the back of the net.
After a strong defensive showing, Slot’s side earned a crucial clean sheet and three points to move back up to third in the Premier League table.
