Liverpool 2-0 Brighton: Reds Find Stability at Anfield Again

Liverpool earned a much-needed Premier League victory over Brighton at Anfield, securing a result that felt as important psychologically as it did on the table. In a campaign that has wobbled alarmingly, this was a performance built on sharp execution rather than dominance, with Hugo Ekitike once again decisive and Mohamed Salah providing a timely lift.
The match was shaped almost instantly. After just 46 seconds, Liverpool were ahead, Ekitike reacting quickest when Brighton failed to clear their lines. Joe Gomez’s header dropped invitingly and the French striker finished calmly, registering the fastest Premier League goal of the season and easing the tension inside Anfield.
Brighton responded with confidence, probing a Liverpool defence stretched by injuries. Yet Ekitike’s influence extended beyond the opener. His movement consistently unsettled Brighton’s centre-backs, while Liverpool’s approach was notably direct, targeting space behind a high defensive line rather than controlling possession.
That strategy paid off again shortly after the hour. Salah’s introduction changed the rhythm of the contest, and from his right-sided corner, Ekitike powered home a header at the back post to double Liverpool’s advantage. The growing understanding between the pair was evident.
Brighton enjoyed spells of pressure, particularly after the break. Kaoru Mitoma added threat from the bench, while Alisson Becker was forced into decisive action to deny Diego Gomez. Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate stood firm as crosses flooded the box.
For Arne Slot, this was a stabilising win. Ekitike’s brace underlined Liverpool’s attacking plan, while Salah’s return reinforced his enduring influence. It was not a solution to all problems, but it was a step forward.
