Liverpool 5-2 West Ham: Reds Overpower West Ham with Set Piece Masterclass
Liverpool produced a commanding 5-2 victory over West Ham in the Premier League, drawing level on points with fourth placed Manchester United and strengthening their position in the race for Europe. Arne Slot’s side built the win on ruthless finishing and outstanding set piece delivery, racing into a 3-0 lead by half time at Anfield.
All three first half goals came from dead ball situations. Inside five minutes, Ryan Gravenberch released Hugo Ekitike, who finished sharply at the near post for his 16th goal of the season. Dominik Szoboszlai then supplied a precise corner for Virgil van Dijk to head home, before Alexis Mac Allister struck a superb volley, aided by a deflection, to put Liverpool firmly in control.
West Ham responded after the break. Tomas Soucek converted from close range to reduce the deficit and give the visitors hope. Liverpool briefly lost control, with earlier missed chances from Konstantinos Mavropanos, Jarrod Bowen and Soucek proving costly for the Hammers.
Cody Gakpo restored calm in the 70th minute, cutting inside and seeing his effort deflect beyond Mads Hermansen. Taty Castellanos added a second for West Ham, but Jeremie Frimpong’s cross was turned into his own net by Axel Disasi to seal Liverpool’s first five goal league haul of the season.
The result lifts Liverpool into fifth place, above Chelsea, while West Ham remain 18th and under pressure. Slot’s emphasis on set pieces continues to yield rewards, offering a decisive edge in a tightly contested Premier League campaign.
