Liverpool Fail To Win at Anfield Again After Clinching Point Against Sunderland

That’s three home games on the bounce without a win at Anfield for Liverpool, after clinching a point against Sunderland.
Arne Slot made the big decision to leave Mohamed Salah out of the side once again. The Dutchman named just one change to the lineup that won at West Ham United on Sunday with Andy Robertson replacing Milos Kerkez at left-back.
However, after an incredibly flat first-half Slot turned to the Egyptian King, who took the place of Cody Gakpo at half-time.
Things looked a little bit better after the break but it all fell to pieces when Chemsdine Talbi’s strike deflected off Virgil van Dijk and past Alisson Becker to give Sunderland the lead.
Hugo Ekitike and Curtis Jones were the next players to join the fold and both put in a good performance.
The latter of those won the ball back on the edge of the box before playing a lovely reverse ball to Florian Wirtz, who danced past a few Sunderland bodies and saw his effort deflected into the back of the net.
It has since been awarded as a Nordi Mukiele own-goal but the importance of the goal was still huge.
With ten minutes still to go, Liverpool pushed for a winner but couldn’t break down a resilient Sunderland defence.
The draw leaves Liverpool sitting 8th in the Premier League table, but still somehow only two points off the top four. However, serious questions remain over Arne Slot’s future.
