I'm penning this after completing another whirlwind Transfer podcast with Trev Downey for Anfield Index. The show seems to be gaining in popularity every week, and I’m glad the hours of prep are proving worthwhile. There’s never a quiet moment when it comes to Liverpool and transfers, and this week has been no different.
Despite the frustration around a lack of confirmed incomings, there’s plenty to keep an eye on. The names are there, the groundwork seems to be done, and in many cases, it’s not a matter of if, but when. That includes the likes of Wirtz and Kerkez, who remain closely linked.
Luis DÃaz and the Market Value Equation
One of the key talking points this week was Luis DÃaz. There’s been heavy speculation around his future, and while there’s no official movement just yet, the signs suggest interest is firming up behind the scenes. His father’s recent comments have only added fuel to that fire.
The situation is sensitive. DÃaz remains a talented and valuable asset, but if the right offer arrives, the club will have a decision to make. Whether that comes from Barcelona or further afield, it’s now about value, timing and trust in Arne Slot's system to move forward with or without him.
Darwin Núñez and the Social Media Circus
Darwin Núñez’s future has been a hot topic, partly because of the lad’s own actions online. The social media unfollows, the cryptic silence and the general online chaos have all fed the speculation.
From what we know, there’s no solid approach for him yet. But if that were to change, it’s likely to be one of the big European clubs circling rather than Saudi Arabia. Whether he fits into Slot’s plans remains unclear, but his raw attributes still make him a tantalising prospect if used properly.
Saudi Eyes on Alisson
Alisson Becker remains one of Liverpool’s most important players, and there’s no question about his world-class ability. That’s precisely why the Saudi Pro League made discreet enquiries to his camp, just to test the waters.
To Alisson’s credit, he gave a strong interview from Brazil duty, where he emphasised his focus on staying at Liverpool and having a big season ahead of the World Cup. The club also hold an option to extend his contract, and from what was said, they are likely to trigger it. That means we’ll have our spine, Alisson, Van Dijk and Salah, in place for another two years. That, in itself, is massive.
Measured, Not Reactionary
While there’s understandable anxiety among fans, especially on social media, I still believe Liverpool are playing a smarter hand than many. Unlike Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester United, we’re not chasing headlines or reacting to what others are doing. The focus is on the right player, at the right time, for the right price.
This approach might test our patience, but when it lands, it sticks. And based on what I’m hearing, Liverpool’s window is just getting started.
