Liverpool managed 74% possession against Nottingham Forest, while Forest were left with only 26%. On paper, this should have been the platform for Liverpool to dominate and win. The chance generation, the build-up play, the right side link-ups all looked promising in the first 30 minutes.

But possession without penetration becomes hollow. Liverpool recorded 21 total shots compared to 15 for Forest. Yet only 4 of those were on target for Liverpool, against 7 for Forest. That efficiency gap tells part of the story, dominating the ball, but not dominating the game.
