It’s looking very likely at the moment that Liverpool are going to be targeting one of Lamine Camara or Mamadou Sangare this summer.

With Curtis Jones set to leave and Alexis Mac Allister’s future up in the air, the Reds need to address their midfield ranks and it looks like they will be going for a very similar profile.

What Arne Slot’s side has lacked this season has been intensity. Over the course of the campaign, it’s been evident that Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch do not have the physical profile to make this midfield as stable as it should be.

Far too often Liverpool’s midfield has been very porous and easy to play through. The goal this summer will be to address that intensity.

Liverpool will need midfielders who can provide energy and the ability to win the ball back time and time again.

It’s no surprise therefore that the club’s recruitment team are looking at Lamine Camara and more recently reports have emerged about the Reds have Mamadou Sangare on their shortlist as well.

They are two players who tick the fundamentals of what Liverpool need. They are high intensity ball-winners who regularly contest and win duels.

Camara vs Sangaré: Key Stats Comparison for Liverpool’s Midfield

Mamadou Sangare has won possession more times than any other player in Ligue 1 this season (194), Lamine Camara ranks in the top five midfielders for possessions won (147).

Now it’s important to note Camara has actually played significantly less minutes. So if you flip this to per 90, Camara actually ranks no.1 in Ligue 1 for possessions won (7.92). Though not far behind him in second place is Sangare (7.81).

So in terms of their ability to win possession, the difference is so marginal it doesn’t make sense to debate it – they are both elite in this area of the game.
