Nobody wants to be in this situation. We didn’t think that just a few months into the season Arne Slot’s position at Liverpool would be in jeopardy.

As the results continue to disappoint, there’s no hiding away from the fact that just 21 wins in Slot’s last 42 matches as Liverpool boss is simply not good enough.

The performances against PSV Eindhoven and Nottingham Forest have been particularly dire.

If there’s a similar outcome on Sunday against West Ham United, Slot’s job will be completely untenable.

Liverpool then have to make the decision to part ways. But just who could come in to replace the Dutchman?

We’ll overlook the fanciful ideas like Jurgen Klopp’s return, Steven Gerrard as interim or Xabi Alonso abandoning Real Madrid and instead assess potential long-term solutions looking at the pros and cons of each option.
