Maxence Lacroix emerges as Liverpool option with Konate set to leave
Liverpool are preparing for a defensive reshuffle, and Lacroix’s profile makes him a player worth watching.
So the news has now seemingly become official. Ibrahima Konate will be departing Liverpool for pastures new.
What that means for the Reds, we do not fully know. It’s fair to say it does put Liverpool in a very tricky situation.
Why Liverpool need a replacement for Ibrahima Konate
At a time when there is already so much investment needed in other areas of the squad, with at least two attackers and one midfielder's eyes, it feels like an unnecessary additional burden on the club’s recruitment team to now also find an heir to Konate’s throne.
Sure, the problem is alleviated by the arrival of Jeremy Jacquet and the return of Giovanni Leoni from injury. However, can Liverpool afford to rely on their inexperience and an injury-prone Joe Gomez going into next season?
The answer is no. And it’s why Maxence Lacroix has emerged as a serious candidate for the Reds.
Why Maxence Lacroix is on Liverpool’s transfer radar
The Frenchman has always been well-liked by figures at Anfield. Liverpool’s scouts had tracked him at Wolfsburg, and there were some links to him during his time in Germany, but a move never materialised.
It’s also not the first time Lacroix will be stepping in to fill Konate’s shoes. When Konate left Sochaux for RB Leipzig, not long after Lacroix emerged as his replacement and earned himself a move to the Bundesliga, just like the now soon-to-be former Liverpool defender.
