Liverpool’s winger search is not confined to continental Europe. There are viable Premier League options, and when you narrow that down, two names stand out from what we have discussed: Anthony Gordon and Yankuba Minteh.

Both offer qualities that fit different aspects of what Liverpool need. Both bring pace, attacking intent and the ability to influence games in transition. However, when I assess them through the lens of data, role suitability and tactical flexibility, I have Gordon ahead, albeit not by a huge margin. This is not a dismissal of Minteh. It is a reflection of what Liverpool require right now and how each player aligns with that.

Output Versus Creation Profile

The first distinction between Gordon and Minteh lies in how they affect attacking phases. Minteh profiles as a more creative, high-activity winger. The below carries map below indicates activity on the left and the right. His dribbling numbers are strong, and he consistently carries the ball into dangerous areas. When we have looked at him previously, the volume of dribbles per ninety stands out, and that ability to destabilise defensive structures has clear value.

He is also involved in build-up phases, linking play and progressing the ball through carries rather than purely through passing. This can be seen in the carries map below, indicating carries from the halfway line linking play into the final third. That gives him a certain unpredictability, especially when operating from wider areas.

Gordon’s profile is slightly different. His creative numbers are high, operating around the ninetieth percentile, which places him in strong company even in a demanding league. However, what separates him is how that creation translates into direct attacking output.
