Salah Deserves the Ballon d’Or. Simple as That.
It is time to launch a proper campaign to give Salah the Ballon d’Or he has earned.
I’ve had enough of the nonsense. Mohamed Salah has just delivered one of the greatest individual seasons English football has ever seen, and yet his name is barely whispered when it comes to the Ballon d’Or. It is a disgrace. The man’s numbers speak for themselves: 34 goals, 23 assists, and a season where he dragged Liverpool to the title and carried the attack week in, week out.
People bang on about Usman Dembele or Rafinha, but come off it. Yes, Dembele had a purple patch, but Salah lived at that level all year. He turned up in the hardest league in the world, under constant pressure. Every time. It was not a flash, it was not a phase, it was sustained brilliance. And yet he gets overlooked, again.
You have to wonder, do you not? If Salah were not Egyptian, if he did not come from Africa and the Arab world, would this even be a debate? There is a bias there, and it is not even subtle. How many players have swept the Premier League’s top honours in one season and been ignored? None, until now. Writers’ Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year, Golden Boot, Playmaker award, all his. And still, we are told someone else deserves it more?
Liverpool are rebuilding now under Arne Slot. We have talent coming in, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, and the structure is starting to take shape. But none of it works without Mo. He is still the heartbeat of this team, still the one who makes the difference.
So let us be honest. If the Ballon d’Or is about rewarding the best footballer over the course of a season, then Salah should already be booking his flight to collect it. Anything less is a robbery.
