Skipping Anfield, and not even bothered
Liverpool vs Fulham | Premier League Preview
Like many others, I’m not using my season tickets for this one; my nephew is taking them, and I’m not overly bothered about missing it. I’m off to see fellow Red Russell Howard in Edinburgh tonight, and I’m confident I’ll enjoy that fixture far more. And if it’s alright for Russell, then it’s alright for me.
Truth be told, it probably tells us everything about where Liverpool are right now.
There is a flatness around this team that’s hard to ignore. Not just poor results, but poor feeling. A lack of urgency, a lack of fight, and most concerning of all, a lack of belief. This is a side that looks beaten before it begins, a group that no longer drags itself through adversity, but simply accepts it.
Too many players meander through games. Too many moments pass without reaction. The intensity that once defined Liverpool has drained away, leaving something passive and fragile in its place. You watch them and wait for someone to grab hold of it, to change the mood, to spark something, but it rarely comes.
Fulham will arrive rested, with clarity and purpose. Liverpool, at the moment, look like a tired team searching for both. There’s still time to salvage something from the season, but it requires a level of honesty and fight that hasn’t been evident often enough.
Right now, this feels like a side going through the motions, on the beach with no sandals, still wearing the full kit, and Anfield, sadly, doesn’t feel like the place to be.
Enjoy the Grand National, enjoy the golf. I’ll enjoy Russell. Let’s see if Liverpool can be arsed today.
