Spurs 1-2 Liverpool: Reds Hold On to Victory in Nervy Second Half
Anfield Index Post-Match Content - OUT NOW
Liverpool secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with goals from Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike. Despite a lacklustre first half, the Reds surged in the second 45 minutes to extend their Premier League title defence under Arne Slot.
Tottenham dominated possession early on but neither side created significant chances. The game turned when Xavi Simons was sent off for a reckless challenge on Virgil van Dijk. After the break, Liverpool found their rhythm, with Isak scoring a clinical finish in the 56th minute, marking his seventh Premier League goal against Spurs. Moments later, Ekitike doubled the lead with a powerful header.
Tottenham responded through Richarlison, who capitalised on a defensive error from Van Dijk to score from close range. The Brazilian then had a golden opportunity to equalise but missed, and Liverpool held on for the win.
Despite a slow start, Liverpool’s resilience and clinical finishing proved decisive. Tottenham will regret missed chances, particularly Richarlison’s failed attempt to level the score late on.
