As Liverpool fans celebrate Christmas, one family faces it with unimaginable pain. This is a day to be grateful, reflective, and united in memory of Diogo Jota.
I remember in the few month after we signed Diogo I asked myself how the hell we managed to nab him. He was clearly such a positive influence on the mood of the locker room and on all those who encountered him - it was clearly impossible to not like him regardless of team affiliation. I doubt that he’d have played a major role, but I so wish he was still along for the ride this season. RIP Diogo, forever and always our number 20
What a profoundly moving tribute. The way this captures both the collective grief and the deeply personal loss hits differently when thinking about those three children growing up with stories instead of memories. I lost someone close unexpectedly a few years back and that line about trying to remembre the sound of a voice cut deep. The reminder that football is really about people, not trophies, is something we probaly need more often.
