Tony Evans: Slot's Sharp Lessons Fuel Liverpool’s Next-Level Ambitions
After a title-winning debut season, Arne Slot isn’t celebrating; he’s recalibrating.
The next phase starts now, and it’s smarter, tougher, and built for glory.
Arne Slot shouldn’t have any regrets after his brilliant first season at Anfield. After all, the 46-year-old delivered Liverpool an unexpected Premier League title.
But the head coach is still annoyed by a couple of things: the meek performance against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final and the exit from the Champions League at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.
Going out of Europe to the Continent’s best team and the eventual competition winners, particularly by such a fine margin as a penalty shootout, is no reason for shame. And who really cares about the Carabao Cup in the context of such a wonderful season? Yet Slot has high standards and is eager to rectify his mistakes. He considers his lack of rotation to be an error.
That’s questionable. Was the squad good enough to succeed on three fronts? No. Even so, there are moments when Slot would do things differently if given the chance again.
The Mistakes That Still Sting
Here we are. Another season, another opportunity. It will be different.
