Under Pressure to end weekly run, a decade of pioneering analysis
Scheduling demands and growing commitments bring change; future plans point to a new, less frequent analytics format
After more than a decade at the forefront of football analytics, Under Pressure will be coming to an end in its current weekly format at the close of this season.
From its early days with Gags Tandon, Dan Kennett, Simon Brundish and Dan Rhodes, Under Pressure set the standard for data-led football analysis, not just within the Liverpool community but across the wider game. Over time, the show evolved, with Dr Phil Barter and Hamzah Khalique-Loonat adding new depth and perspective, helping keep it at the cutting edge of analytics throughout its run.
Put simply, this has been one of the most influential football podcasts of its kind.
So why the change?
The reality is that producing a weekly show of this level, built on detailed data, preparation and insight, requires a huge amount of time and coordination. As careers have progressed and life commitments have grown, aligning schedules has become increasingly difficult. Maintaining the standard Under Pressure set for itself every single week is no small task.
What happens next is still taking shape.
We don’t believe this is the end of Under Pressure entirely. The intention is to evolve it into a more general analytics show, likely on a less frequent basis, perhaps monthly, while keeping the core voices involved where possible.
At the same time, the way we deliver stats and analysis continues to evolve. Shows like Stat Me Up! on YouTube, hosted by Dave Davis and featuring familiar Under Pressure contributors, and Transfer Market Metric, are already exploring new formats and approaches.
So while the weekly pod is stepping away, the commitment to smart, thoughtful analysis at Anfield Index remains unchanged.
We owe a huge debt of gratitude to everyone who has contributed to Under Pressure over the years. Individually and collectively, they’ve played a massive role in shaping what Anfield Index is today.
And, of course, thank you to all of you, the listeners and subscribers. Without your support, this journey doesn’t happen.
We’ll share more as plans for next season become clearer. For now, let’s make the most of the remaining episodes.
Up The Reds!
