The day was always going to come. We never think it does but it’s inevitable. Every player’s career comes to an end at some point. And this summer feels like the end of an era for Alisson.

Interest from Juventus continues to accelerate and with a year left on his contract, it would make financial sense for Liverpool to sell him now rather than to let him go on a free transfer.

Especially considering Alisson’s recent injury track record. He has been far too unreliable in terms of his fitness over the course of the last couple of seasons.

But if Alisson does leave, Liverpool cannot afford to be idle in their reaction. Giorgi Mamardashvili is a very good goalkeeper. Is he ready to step-up and be the no.1 for Liverpool?

That question is moot – especially considering there are rightfully question marks about his distribution.

Liverpool are better off entering this new era with two first-choice goalkeepers competing for one spot. Just as they had done in the past when Jerzy Dudek and Pepe Reina went up against each other.
