Liverpool may have lifted the Premier League trophy last season under Arne Slot, but there’s no room for complacency at the top. Anyone paying close attention will know that the squad is in transition. The full-backs have been tweaked and the forward line in the midst of a rebuild, and yet there’s a nagging absence in the squad – energy.

Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, for all their inconsistency and chaotic moments, pressed and unsettled defences. Their departures, albeit completely understandable, have drained some of that raw chaos from Liverpool’s game. Instead, the current options like Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo don’t have that side of the game. Hugo Ekitike presses but hasn’t been a regular fixture in Arne Slot’s side, whilst Florian Wirtz covers a lot of ground but hasn’t reaped the rewards yet.

The middle ground between immense work-rate and solid end product? Antoine Semenyo.
